Joeli Veitayaki is an accomplished academic and environmental expert, currently based at the University of the South Pacific. In addition to this, he has a diverse range of roles, including being the Director for the International Ocean Institute Pacific Islands, Co-Chair of the Korea-South Pacific Ocean Forum (KSPOFF), and a member of the Panel of Experts for a Sustainable Ocean Economy.
Joeli has dedicated his career to the study of human-environment relations. His research interests encompass various topics, including subsistence and artisanal fisheries, indigenous knowledge, traditional resource management systems, climate change, disaster risk reduction, sustainable development, and regional cooperation in the Pacific Islands.
Joeli has played a pivotal role in the development and coordination of community-based initiatives in the Lomani Gau network, fostering partnerships between development organizations and the 16 villages of Gau Island in Fiji to promote sustainable resource management.
